If you have time visit Thisaigal in April.

My understanding of Temple worship in India pre dates Buddisim. Even in our Tamil Silapathikaram, which occurs at the peak of Buddisim in Insia there were temples dedicated to Tirumal etc. The Buddha Vihar (not temples) of India had a different purpose than Hindu temples. However, when Buddism spread to the far east, an amalgamation of local traditions, legends and Buddism occurred and Buddha was worshiped more or less like God or at kleast like Jesus, a messaiah.

Angkor Wat to begin with was completely a Hindu enterprise. It was occupied by Buddist when Royal sponsorship to Hindusim declined.

Hope this information is useful.Dr.N.Kannanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14818436093975846251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5593630.post-1111481989081239602005-03-22T14:29:00.000+05:302005-03-22T14:29:00.000+05:30It is really interesting thing to hear about Angko...It is really interesting thing to hear about Angkor from a first hand report. In your report you have been beautifully explaining your impressions on it. I have read that Angkor is ruled by a south indian brahmin and the current aristocrats still claims that they are of that lineage.

After hearing your talk, I have the following doubt:

I am of the opinion that Hindus started worshipping idols only after the buddhist influence. It is oft-repeated that buddhists were the first to build temples, which were later converted to Hindu temples with Hindu gods and godesses. However, your talk (as you are told by the guides) that the temple is built in 13th century with Hindu deities and later at 16th century it came under the control of buddhists who put buddha statues. This contradicts what I have read about.

May be the brahmin king who built the temple could have built it after the buddhists started building huge statues for buddha, but for Lord Vishnu. In that case, this temple could be the first of its kind.

Another option is that what I have read could be wrong and it is the Hindus who have started building temples, which the buddhists followed.

Please provide me more clarification.Muse (# 01429798200730556938)https://www.blogger.com/profile/01429798200730556938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5593630.post-1108424646141414402005-02-15T05:14:00.000+05:302005-02-15T05:14:00.000+05:30Very Interesting Travel-voice blog...Waiting for P...Very Interesting Travel-voice blog...Waiting for Part II...
Nandri...Adaengappa !!https://www.blogger.com/profile/13771001669625103248noreply@blogger.com
